Mlolongo is one of the fastest growing Nairobi suburbs.
Mlolongo itself is in Athiriver/Mavoko subcounty of Machakos, but Nairobi city
has grown to a level where it seems to have swallowed up Mlolongo. Thus,
whereas Mlolongo may be administratively in Machakos, it is practically a part
of Nairobi in all other respects. It is part of the Nairobi Metropolitan area. Given that state of affairs, and the fact
that Mlolongo town is growing so fast, we are seeing an every rising number of
people seeking to buy plots here. And that is what leads to the question as to
where exactly one can find plots for sale in Mlolongo.
The truth of the matter is that there are plots for sale in all parts of Mlolongo. The only challenge may be in finding someone who is selling
at the exact point when you go shopping. The other challenge may be in finding
someone who is selling a plot in Mlolongo at a price you can afford.
There are 4 main areas where you can buy a plot in Mlolongo:
The first area is the one that is commonly referred to as Mlolongo phase 1/the
old Mlolongo town. So this is the area between the Mlolongo weighbridge,
Madharau street and the Mlolongo main road/service lane. The plots in this area
can be rather costly, as it fronts the main Mombasa Nairobi highway. Getting a
plot for sale in this area of Mlolongo can at times be just as hard as getting a Safaricomjob. Sometimes posing the question as to whether you can find a plot for
sale in this area is as futile as asking whether you can apply for a KenyaID online.
The second area where you can buy plots in Mlolongo is the
one that is commonly referred to as Mlolongo Phase 2. This is arguably the most
developed part, in terms of rental properties. But there are individuals who
left their plots undeveloped/some who developed their plots poorly, and you may find some who are willing to sell.
The third area where you can buy plots in Mlolongo is the
one that is commonly referred to as Mlolongo phase 3. Moving from Mlolongo
phase 2 towards Mlolongo phase 3, you have to cross a river/ravine. This is a
relatively undeveloped area, and the plots are definitely cheaper.
The
fourth area where you can buy plots in Mlolongo is the one that is commonly
referred to as Kasina area. So this is the area opposite AIC Kasina, between
the Solomon School and Kenchic. It is a well developed area in terms of rental properties,
but with some luck, you may find someone who is selling an empty or
poorly-developed plot. The parts of Kasina fronting the Mombasa Nairobi highway
can be rather costly, but as you go deep inside, the plots may be slightly
cheaper.
